¡¡A Bailar con Son Jarocho!!
Whether you were strolling down Olvera Street or driving up Main Street, you could hear the winding strums of las jaranas and the rhythmic dance steps on the tarima as part of LA Plaza’s ongoing FREE Family Day Series.
Visitors enjoyed the many wonders of Veracruz and its colorful and rhythmic culture through art, culinary, garden, and performances. Participants of all ages learned the basics of Son Jarocho through dance and music workshops conducted by talented jaraneros from El Centro Cultural de Mexico. Families also explored medicinal teas and tropical treats from the Veracruz region as part of LA Plaza’s Edible Teaching Garden and Culinary Arts Program. Children expressed their creativity through a volunteer-led art workshop, where household materials were used to make colorful maracas.
Let’s continue the Son Jarocho celebration together at the 11th Annual Encuentro de Jaraneros, a FREE music festival organized by El Comité Organizador del Encuentro and LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes.
If you missed the FREE Family day or you want to practice your dance steps, check out the video recap of the event below and mark your calendars for August 18th as the celebration continues.
Hope to see you there as we dance the night away on the tarima!!!
