“Lasting Legacies: A Tribute to the Chicano Art Movement”—LA Plaza celebrated its first contemporary art exhibition Thursday evening with a special reception celebrating iconic Chicana/o artists. On view until January 31, this exhibition highlights the impact of the Chicano Art Movement on the history of Los Angeles. Artists in attendance included Wayne Alaniz Healy, Judithe Hernandez, Judy Baca, David Botello, Barbara Carrasco, Willie Herrón, Roberto Gutierrez, Joe Gonzalez, Harry Gamboa, and Oscar Castillo, George Rodriguez, and Linda Vallejo.

As a celebration of its opening weekend, LA Plaza invites you to join artists in the galleries as they give voice to Los Angeles history through an exploration of LA Starts Here!, LA Plaza’s inaugural exhibition.

This Saturday, visitors have the unique opportunity to listen to a panel discussion titled, “Emerging Chicano/a Identities: Los Angeles in the ‘60s and ‘70s” led by Dr. Margarita Nieto, professor of Chicano Studies at Cal State Northridge. Artists Judithe Hernandez, John Valadez, Linda Vallejo, and Wayne Alaniz Healy will also contribute to the discussion.

Sunday includes a special performance by Willie Herrón and Chola con Cello on LA Plaza’s patio.

Bring the entire family to enjoy LA Plaza’s exhibitions, art workshops, music, and more on both days—all for free!
