Visitors to LA Plaza have an opportunity to experience Voces Vivas, an original short-film series featuring interviews with a broad spectrum of Mexican Americans. These films expand on the LA Plaza experience, personalizing Mexican American history through the individual stories of the interview subjects and bring to light a rich and sometimes controversial history.
This series contains over 50 films each running 4-5 minutes in length. Approximately half of the films are playing continuously at various kiosks throughout the first floor of the exhibit, LA Starts Here!
In addition, selected films are continuously being played in the Voces Vivas gallery in the LA Starts Here! exhibition. Some notable interviews include:
Moctesuma Esparza - Award winning film producer, entertainment executive, and community activist
Dolores Huerta - Civil rights activist and co-founder of the United Farm Workers Union
Gloria Molina - LA County Supervisor 1st District
Edward James Olmos - Actor and director
Sandra Romero - Social Activist and owner of Mama's Hot Tamales
Esteban Torres - Former Congressman from California's 38th District
Luis Valdez - American playwright, writer and film director
