Volunteers and Interns are one of LA Plaza’s riches resources, bringing their diverse backgrounds and talents to enhance visitors’ experiences of our exhibitions, programs, and events. 
 
Volunteers and Interns at LA Plaza experience history, develop new skills, establish rewarding relationships, and are part of exciting cultural and educational programs.
 
 
Volunteer Program Requirements
Prospective volunteers should be at least fifteen years of age, passionate about working with people, and willing to make a six-month commitment for a minimum of 8 hours a month. Volunteer opportunities vary with regard to hours and arrangements can be made to accommodate individual schedules.
 
 
Volunteer Opportunities
·       Gallery Guides: Weekdays and Weekends, 12pm-4pm
Gallery Guides assist the Admissions team during peak visitor hours. Volunteers in this department provide exceptional customer service at LA Plaza’s front lobby and work with the admissions team to welcome visitors. Gallery Guides are trained to provide brief introductions of LA Plaza’s mission and exhibitions to visitors and drop-in groups.
 
·       Engagement Guides: Mon., Wed., Thurs., Fri., 9am-12pm
Engagement Guides assist with LA Plaza’s student tours and workshops. Volunteers in this department are trained to lead tours and art workshops with K-college student groups. Engagement Guides work with LA Plaza’s Education Team to lead grade-appropriate and curriculum-based tours and hands-on workshops.
 
·       Administrative Support: Mon-Fri., 12-3pm
Volunteers in this area provide support to numerous departments—including Admissions, Education, Programs, and Membership. Volunteers assist visitors in the exhibition galleries, conduct research, assist with preparing educational materials, as well as with preparations for upcoming hands-on workshops.
 
·       Family Day Volunteers: Select Weekends, 11am-4pm
Family Days at LA Plaza include multi-generational hands-on art, garden, culinary, and fitness activities that offer an engaging pathway to cultural self-discovery and the appreciation of personal, familial, and community heritage. Volunteers in this area work closely with staff to facilitate hands-on workshops for children and families. Family Day opportunities include:
 
-   Art Workshop Volunteers help students and families explore the subjects and themes of LA Plaza’s exhibitions and installations. Volunteers assist as students make cultural connections and learn about history through hands-on studio art activities. Studio art instruction is provided.
 
-   Garden Volunteers work alongside LA Plaza’s Garden Teacher to assist with hands-on garden workshops and guide visitors through their exploration of LA Plaza’s Edible Teaching Garden.
 
-   Culinary Art Volunteers assist LA Plaza’s Culinary Teacher with the facilitation of cooking demonstrations and hands-on cooking workshops.

Internship Program Requirements
Intern applicants should be passionate about working with people in a variety of areas and departments. Positions vary with regard to hours; however, LA Plaza requires a minimum 10 week commitment of 3 days a week for 24 hours a week. Arrangements can be made to accommodate individual schedules.
 
 
Internship Opportunities
The Internship Program at LA Plaza offers undergraduate and graduate students, as well as recent graduates with the unique opportunity to experience a hands-on and in-depth look at museum operations. Intern opportunities are available year-round in an array of areas, including:
