In this class, we will explore the fascinating life cycle of three sisters; corn, beans, and squash, focusing on their unique anatomy that enables them to thrive in symbiosis. We will examine their distinct flowering patterns, fertilization processes, and the potential for cross-contamination. Additionally, we will conduct a thorough inspection of the garden, performing necessary maintenance tasks such as checking the irrigation system and monitoring for pests. We will review signs of nutrient deficiency, allowing us to determine if additional fertilization is needed. Additionally, we will delve into the benefits of using mulch and emphasize the importance of weed removal to promote healthy plant growth. By understanding these elements, we can enhance our gardening practices and foster a productive ecosystem. Participants will also receive a garden kit consisting of a resource book, gloves, tools and seeds. The series will conclude with a free cooking experience in the garden in June. Special guest, Marlene Aguilar of Irekuarhikua.
