El Machete was founded by Oscar Ochoa in 2012. Oscar was born in Boyle Heights, a neighborhood on the Eastside of Los Angeles. Both his mother and father, hailing from the Mexican states of Jalisco and Michoacan, instilled in him at an early age a love for cooking and an appreciation for culture.
In 2012, El Machete was born. His sauce concepts originate from his love for heat and his love for history and the arts (El Machete is the name of the Mexican Political Newspaper that was established in 1924). And as a Boyle Heights Native, and self-taught sauce-maker, Oscar also explores art and social/political history through the brand, El Machete.
