The Personal is Political: My Barrio Story Dr. Álvaro Huerta, Associate Professor, Cal Poly Pomona

Join us on Zoom and Facebook Live as Dr. Álvaro Huerta discusses the issue of anti-Mexicanism in the United States, from the mass deportations of Mexicans and the Zoot Suit Riots and more contemporary instances of police abuse. Using archival and contemporary photographs and art from the acclaimed artist, Salomón Huerta, Dr. Huerta also discusses the journey of his large Mexican family, from a rancho in Michoacán to East Los Angeles’s notorious Ramona Gardens public housing project known as Big Hazard, and his pursuit of higher education at UCLA and UC Berkeley.
