LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes invites young people interested in acquiring job-ready skills to enter the restaurant and hospitality industries to apply to join the first cohort of LA Plaza Cocina Culinary Youth Training Program. The deadline to apply is June 30, 2023.
This free ten-week bilingual course offers young people (16-24) from under-resourced communities training by a bilingual ServSafe training provider, certified through the National Restaurant Association and ANSI (American National Standard Institute). The first year of the program is made possible by The PepsiCo Foundation.
The course consists of hands-on cooking classes that introduce students to the basics of kitchen safety and recipe execution. Students complete the course with a current resume and an opportunity to take the California ServSafe exam to better prepare for the workforce.
LA Plaza Cocina Culinary Youth Training Program is free and includes a transportation stipend (Metro TAP Card), ServSafe test fees, and printed course materials. Students can also participate in culinary events with restaurateurs, chefs, and culinary schools and gain access to professional development resources.
Classes take place on Tuesdays from 11am-1pm. Although applications are open year-round, the deadline for the first cohort is June 30, with all applications to be submitted before 5pm PST.
