YOLANDA NAVA is a Mexican American journalist, author, and community leader known for her trailblazing work in media and civil rights. Born in Los Angeles, she became the first Latina on KNBC/TV and an Emmy Award-winning journalist, covering events such as the 1987 earthquake, the federal amnesty program, and the AIDS epidemic with compassion and insight.
Her memoir, Through the Dark, chronicles her journey through sudden blindness, earning multiple International Latino Book Awards, while her bestseller It’s All in the Frijoles celebrates Latino culture and received recognition as Best Self-Help Book from the Latino Literary Hall of Fame.
Recognized as one of California’s “Five Outstanding Latinos,” she continues to inspire through advocacy, literature, and motivational speaking, amplifying diverse voices and fostering community empowerment.
