Returning for its 10th year, LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes’ Summer of Salsa series kicks off on May 8 with Son Mayor and continues with monthly Friday night concerts throughout the summer, featuring sets by crowd-favorite Super DJ Robby
LOS ANGELES (April 10, 2025) – LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes will kick off its beloved Summer of Salsa series on May 8 with a lively opening concert by Son Mayor, followed by an exciting lineup of acclaimed bands performing throughout the summer.
Held on select Fridays from 6 pm to 11 pm, the free series invites guests to enjoy an evening of live music, dancing, and community. Each event will feature sets by crowd-favorite DJ Robby, along with Dancing 101 led by Roberto—an introductory lesson designed for beginners, with no partner required.
“This year marks 10 years of Summer of Salsa, a program that has become a cornerstone of LA Plaza’s cultural offerings and a vibrant celebration of music, dance, and community,” said Ximena Martin, Director of Programs. “We’re proud to continue offering a space for community in such a special year, as LA Plaza celebrates its 15th anniversary.”
This year’s series, presented by Mesa Pacific and in partnership with Maker’s Mark, continues on June 5 with Roosevelt “El Presidente de la Salsa.” Additional performances include La Verdad on July 10, Rush Hour Orquestra on August 14, and the series will conclude on September 11 with Conjunto Oye.
Along with each band, attendees will enjoy sets by one of Los Angeles’ most celebrated salsa DJs. Born in Havana, Cuba, Robert Rodriguez, known professionally as Super DJ Robby, has performed alongside legendary artists including Oscar D’León, Los Van Van, José Alberto “El Canario,” Marc Anthony, and Tito Nieves, as well as the late icons Celia Cruz and Tito Puente.
Launched in 2015, Summer of Salsa series paused during 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19 before making a successful return in 2022. In 2025 alone, the Summer of Salsa series welcomed over five thousand attendees. Since its inception, it has brought over 50,000 dancers and families to LA Plaza—many of whom return year after year to be part of this cherished tradition.
Guests are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets to enjoy a picnic on the lawn. Food and beverages will also be available for purchase. Admission is free, and RSVPs are recommended.
