LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes Appoints Tracy M. Serrano-Ruiz as Interim Chief Executive Officer

With more than a decade of experience in the nonprofit and cultural museum sector, her expertise spans administration, board governance, and strategic leadership, with a focus on building strong, mission-driven partnerships.

LOS ANGELES (April 27, 2025) The Board of Directors of LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes today announced the appointment of Tracy M. Serrano-Ruiz as Interim Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately.  

A respected and steady leader within the organization, Serrano-Ruiz has served as Chief of Staff and has been instrumental in guiding internal operations, strengthening governance, and supporting the institution’s mission since its early years. Her appointment comes at an important moment for LA Plaza, as the organization continues its work to celebrate and preserve the history, culture, and contributions of Mexicans, Mexican Americans, and all Latinos in Los Angeles.

“The Board has full confidence in Tracy’s leadership during this time,” said Robert Villaseñor, Chair of the Board of Directors. “She brings a deep understanding of the organization, a strong commitment to our mission, and the steady leadership needed to guide LA Plaza forward. Serrano-Ruiz brings more than a decade of experience in the nonprofit and cultural museum sector. Her expertise spans administration, board governance, and strategic leadership, with a focus on building strong, mission-driven partnerships. Throughout her tenure, she has played a key role in advancing organizational effectiveness and supporting long-term sustainability.

Born in Los Angeles, raised in Ontario, California, and now residing in Riverside with her husband, Serrano-Ruiz is a proud first-generation Mexican American. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Human Communication, with a concentration in Chicano Studies, from California State University, Monterey Bay. Her career has been defined by a deep commitment to cultural preservation, community engagement, and creating meaningful experiences that connect people to history and heritage. 

The Board will continue to provide leadership and oversight during this transition and will share updates regarding future leadership planning in the months ahead.
