In this workshop led by Las Fotos Project, participants will learn about the development of the photographic camera by creating their own early prototype, the analogous pinhole camera! They’ll follow steps to construct a cardboard pinhole camera that will demonstrate basic camera functions. Once the camera is constructed, participants will have a hands-on demonstration of the optics of the human eye, and photographic cameras.
First, they’ll use their camera to experiment with focus and aperture, using premade f-stops to manipulate the sharpness and the brightness of the image projection in their camera. This camera will not record the image because it does not have light sensitive film or sensors, but it will demonstrate the other basic functions of a camera before the image is recorded.
Accessible to ages 12+

LA PLAZA DE CULTURA Y ARTES IS A PST ART COMMUNITY HUB.
WHAT IS PST ART
PST ART is a groundbreaking cultural collaboration. Every five years, PST ART unites hundreds of artists around a single, electrifying theme at more than 60 exhibition spaces. While the theme is different each time, the heart of PST ART is always the distinctive cultural identity of Southern California, and the universal hunger for artistic and intellectual discovery. In a region famed for its films and theme parks, PST ART provides a different kind of gripping experience— and the most distinctively Southern Californian of all.
