ARTMAKING (12 to 4pm)
¡En Vivo desde LA Plaza! –Concert Poster-Making Workshop
Colorful concert posters illustrate the city’s soundscape. Bright colors, bold letters, and striking symbols are some elements you can find on an iconic concert poster. Envision yourself as a guitar genius, a piano prodigy, or a star singer. What would your concert poster look like? Announce your concert date by making a colorful screen-printed poster.
This workshop is facilitated by Ni Santas, an all womxn of color collective working to write their history through art, with responsibility to create socially conscious visual narratives. Ni Santas envisions creating a safe space by cultivating a community of womxn, free of judgment, to nourish emerging artists.
Bandana Stamping with Art Space HP
Inspired by A Great Day in East L.A.: Celebrando the Eastside Sound we invite participants to join Art Space HP in creating stamps inspired by music and the things we love the most about our neighborhoods. The stamps will then be used to print on our own bandanas to wear throughout the day as we celebrate the Eastside!
Jam with Maldita Sopita
Some percussion instruments will be provided, but we invite the community to bring their own acoustic instruments as well for this fun jam! Maldita Sopita is made up of Jacob Barajona on back up vocals and bass, Emmanuel Carrera on guitar and voice, and Angel Garcia on drums. Jam with the psychedelic alt-rock sounds of Southeast LA-based band Maldita Sopita.
CURATOR-LED TOUR (2 to 3pm)
Join an intimate group for a guided tour through the six themed galleries of A Great Day in East L.A.: Celebrando the Eastside Sound. Gain insights into how the exhibition came to life, hear unique stories, and take a deeper look into the fascinating world of the musicians and genres that defined the Eastside sound—and how their influence extended far beyond the streets of Los Angeles. A Great Day in East L.A.: Celebrando the Eastside Sound is a multimedia exhibition that delves into the rich musical legacy of East Los Angeles, highlighting the eclectic sounds and cultural influences that shaped its unique artistic identity.
