Picturing Mexican America is a cluster of digital humanities projects committed to illuminating the long, Mexican history of Los Angeles that’s been systematically erased through centuries of white, cultural supremacy, featuring archival photographs, maps, and historical documents accessible via Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. At Picturing Mexican America’s core is a mobile app, currently under development in collaboration with the Los Angeles Public Library, that will display images of 19th century Mexican Los Angeles to users based on their location. Marissa López is Professor of English and Chicana/o Studies at UCLA, researching Chicanx literature from the 19th century to the present with an emphasis on 19th century Mexican California.
