Dive into the history, traditional production methods, and environmental challenges surrounding raicilla, an ancestral agave spirit from Jalisco, through the documentary Raicilla: Memoria de un Paisaje (2026) (Raichilla: Memory of a Landsape). After the screening, stay for a Q&A with director Pedro Jiménez, followed by a guided raicilla tasting.
Presented in Spanish with English subtitles, the documentary explores the cultural legacy of raicilla through the voices of traditional producers (taberneros), academics, and advocates. Featuring breathtaking footage of Jalisco’s diverse landscapes—from its Pacific coast to its mountain communities—the film reveals how the region’s geography and traditions have shaped this distinctive spirit.
Guest Speaker
Pedro Jiménez is a visual artist, agave culture advocate, and founder of the renowned Guadalajara bar Pare de Sufrir. He is also the founder of Mezonte, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving traditional agave spirits and the communities that produce them. Through his close relationships with taberneros across Jalisco, Jiménez offers an intimate look at the people, landscapes, and traditions that keep raicilla alive.
This program is presented by LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes and Mezcal Por Siempre.
Mezcal Por Siempre is more than a festival. Created with community rather than profit at its center, it is an act of cultural preservation and resistance, a space to honor the families and communities who continue to defend these living traditions of Mezcales Campesinos and carry them forward.
