LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes Kicks off Summer of Salsa Series on May 13

LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes (LA Plaza) presents its seventh annual free Summer of Salsa concert series beginning Friday, May 13. Dance to the sounds of some of LA’s best salsa bands hosted every second Friday of the month from May through September in Downtown Los Angeles.

This year’s LA Plaza lineup includes Ricardo Lemvo and Makina Loka, TROMBOR, Echo Park Project, La Obsesión, and La Verdad. Keeping the dancing going between sets are DJ Robbie, DJ Willie, DJ Robinho, and DJ Jimmy Rumba. The free event features a large dance floor, limited seating and food and bar service available for purchase.

The series is sponsored by Pacific Federal (PacFed), Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, Mesa Pacific, Music Fund of Los Angeles, and Teamsters Local 986.

The 2022 Summer of Salsa Lineup includes:

Ricardo Lemvo and Makina Loka with DJ Robby | Friday, May 13 | 6pm
Ricardo Lemvo and his band presents an innovative blend of Afro-Cuban rhythms with pan-African styles, including soukous, Angolan semba and kizomba, which has been described by the Los Angeles Times as seamless and infectious. 

TROMBOR with DJ Willie | Friday, June 10 | 6-10pm
TROMBOR enriches the Salsa music scene in Los Angeles with the sound crafted in the style of Eddie Palmieri and then continued by Willie Colón and Hector Lavoe as well as Manny Oquendo & Conjunto Libre.

Echo Park Project with DJ Robinho | Friday, July 8| 6-10pm
The Echo Park Project recreates the legendary salsa style of New York City in Southern California with a repertoire combining original material with hot 70s cover tunes

La Obsesión with DJ Jimmy Rumba | Friday, August 19 | 6-10pm
Surrounded by some of the best salsa musicians in Los Angeles, Martin Cache brings back the Puerto Rican / 90s sound that has been the core of the Romantic Salsa sound. Food and drinks available for sale.

La Verdad with DJ Robby | Friday, September 9 | 6-10pm
This West Coast nine-piece salsa group, under the musical direction of Gabriel Gonzalez, is committed to the preservation and expression of Afro-Son. Food and beverages available for sale.
