Statement on Leadership Transition and Strengthening LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes’ Future

Los Angeles, CA (May 7, 2025) –– LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes is undergoing a leadership transition and has taken a series of steps to strengthen the organization’s long-term sustainability and continued service to the community.

In recent months, the Board has taken thoughtful steps to stabilize operations, align resources with institutional priorities, and position LA Plaza for the future. These actions include leadership changes, organizational adjustments, and a careful review of expenses to ensure the organization remains strong and mission focused.

“These decisions were made with great care and deep sense of responsibility to the institution and the community we serve,” said Board Chair Robert Villaseñor. “Our focus is on ensuring that LA Plaza remains a vibrant, sustainable cultural anchor for Los Angeles for years to come.”

Tracy M. Serrano-Ruiz, Interim Chief Executive Officer

As part of this transition, the Board has appointed Tracy M. Serrano-Ruiz as Interim Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. A respected and steady leader, Serrano-Ruiz has served as Chief of Staff and has been instrumental in strengthening internal operations, governance, and mission delivery over many years.

“The Board has full confidence in Tracy’s leadership during this time,” Villaseñor added. “She brings deep institutional knowledge, a strong commitment to our mission, and the steady leadership needed to guide LA Plaza forward.”

“I am honored to step into this role and continue serving an institution that means so much to our community,” said Serrano-Ruiz. “LA Plaza holds a vital place in preserving and sharing our stories, and I look forward to collaborating with our staff, Board, and partners to build on that legacy and a strong future.”

With these actions and new leadership in place, LA Plaza is well-positioned to move forward with clarity, stability, and renewed focus. The organization remains committed to delivering high-quality cultural programming and to celebrating the enduring contributions of Mexicans, Mexican Americans, and all Latinos in Los Angeles.
