Soccer meets art at Casa México

Through contemporary Mexican art, "Goles de Pintura" by Jazzamoart and "Tejiendo Redes: Uniendo comunidades a través del arte y el fútbol" by Betsabeé Romero explore the passion, history, and cultural significance of the world's most beloved sport.

LOS ANGELES (July 6, 2026)—Soccer isn't only played on the field at Casa México, it also comes alive on its walls.

Colorfully painted soccer balls, monumental portraits of players, and a sculptural goal featuring contemporary soccer players interwoven alongside Mesoamerican ballplayers are among the artistic experiences visitors can enjoy at Casa México, in LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes, throughout the remainder of the World Cup.

Through contemporary Mexican art, Goles de Pintura by Jazzamoart and Tejiendo Redes: Uniendo comunidades a través del arte y el fútbol by Betsabeé Romero explore the passion, history, and cultural significance of the world's most beloved sport.

As the official home of the government of Mexico during the World Cup, Casa México has already welcomed nearly 10,000 fans who have gathered to cheer on the Mexican national team. Beyond the excitement of the matches, visitors have the opportunity to experience art inspired by soccer and cultural exchange.

"Soccer has an extraordinary ability to unite people across generations, cultures, and borders. Art does the same," said Carlos González Gutiérrez, Consul General of Mexico in Los Angeles. "At Casa México, we're bringing those two powerful forces together to celebrate the creativity, history, and cultural identity that define Mexico. We want every visitor to leave with unforgettable memories of what they discovered through art."

Goles de Pintura (“Painted Goals”) showcases a vibrant collection of paintings and hand-painted soccer balls inspired by the passion, rhythm, and emotion of the beautiful game. The artworks are located on the 1st and 2nd floors of the museum, and Romero’s public art installation is located in LA Plaza’s courtyard.

A native of Irapuato, Guanajuato, Jazzamoart first explored the intersection of soccer, Jazz, and visual art in 1986, when he participated in a group exhibition organized by Mexico's National Institute of Fine Arts during the World Cup held in Mexico. Throughout his career, he has worked across multiple artistic disciplines including sculpture in wood, marble, bronze, and ceramics, as well as drawing, printmaking, object art, and installation. Large-scale oil painting remains his signature medium. Through bold colors and expressive brushstrokes, his work captures the energy, movement, emotion, and connection shared by both music and sports.

Tejiendo Redes: Uniendo comunidades a través del arte y el fútbol  (Weaving Nets: Uniting Communities Through Art and Soccer) by renowned Mexican artist Betsabeé Romero, is a participatory art installation that brings migrant communities together through collective creation. Developed through community workshops, the project takes the form of a sculptural soccer goal woven with textiles created by migrants. Metal figures representing both Mesoamerican ballplayers and contemporary soccer players are intertwined throughout the structure, creating a powerful dialogue between past and present, migration and belonging, art and sport. The binational project celebrates shared identity and the ties that connect communities across borders.

Both Goles de Pintura and Tejiendo Redes are on view at LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes, in downtown L.A., home of Casa México, through July 19 during regular museum hours, Wednesday through Sunday from 12 to 5 p.m. Entrance is always free.
