More than 250 guests enjoyed the opening reception for our newest exhibition, afroLAtinidad: mi casa, my city, an exploration of the history and contemporary experiences of Afrolatinidad in Los Angeles through art, photographs, and personal objects. On hand were curators Mariah Berlanga-Shevchuk and Walter Thompson-Hernández, along with representatives from sponsor California Humanities and collaborator California African American Museum. A guest performance by Afro-Peruvian educator and choreographer Nadia Calmet set the stage for a lively night. Enjoy photos by Javier Guillen, preceded by a news clip from CBS Los Angeles featuring Mariah.
